Activities and Organizations

Our Lady of Mount Carmel offers a wide variety of activities and organizations for parishioners to select from as they seek to build their involvement in the parish community life.

Bible Study Group

Our Bible Study group meets on Thursday mornings after the 9:45 am.

Catholic Youth Organization (CYO)

Youth can participate in sports through the CYO league games. Click here for more information.

Engaged Couples

Anticipating a marriage this year? A Pre-Marriage workshop for engaged couples, is held twice annually. The workshop is facilitated by volunteer married couples who are parishioners of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Registration is required and a fee is charged. Funeral Luncheon Committees

Volunteers perform a valuable service to grieving families of deceased parishioners by serving a lunch after the funeral Mass and graveside services. The family purchases the meat dish, while all other items are donated. Five teams of volunteers provide the food and serve the meals at no cost to the bereaved family. To assist with this important ministry, call the Parish office at 734-847-2805.

God Works

A God Works Community Dinner is served here at Mount Carmel every Wednesday at 6:00 pm in our parish hall. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. This is a free meal for families and individuals who may benefit from a hot meal.

God Works Community Dinners in south Monroe County:
Monday: St. Luke's Lutheran Church, corner of Jackman & Sterns
Tuesday: Bridgepoint Church, corner of Erie & Lewis
Wednesday: OLMC
Thursday: Crossroads Church, 6960 Sylvania-Petersburg, Ottawa Lake
Friday: St. Joseph Church, 8295 Van Aiken, Ida

Doors open at 5:30 pm; Dinner served at 6:00 pm. All meals are free for those in need.

To volunteer to help cook or serve a God Works meal, call the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) Office at 734-850-6042.

Grief Support Group

Those suffering from the loss of a loved one are invited and encouraged to attend a meeting our Grief Support Group. You are not asked to share your feelings, you are just welcome to be with others who know what you are going through. This group meets the second Saturday of each month at 10:00 am here at the parish. For more information call the Parish Office at 734-847-2805.

Keenagers

The Keenagers welcome parishioners age 50+. Monthly meetings, outings, potluck luncheons, social, and service activities keep us busy and help us to stay young at heart. The next meeting will be held the second Tuesday in September. Check "Latest News" for details.

Knights of Columbus

Local Council 8902 of the national organization for Catholic men of the parish; offering spiritual enrichment, service opportunities, and social activities. Emphasis is on God and family. Men's Fellowship

Catholic Men's Fellowship meets the first and third Tuesday of each month in our library at 7:30 pm. Click here to download information.

Ministry of Praise

The Ministry of Praise is a group of parishioners who pray for the intentions of the parish and parishioners. These people offer their joys & sufferings for others. If you would like to join this group, call Bernadine at 734-856-1490. To offer a prayer request, drop a note in the Ministry of Praise box, located on the wall by the bulletin board in the Narthex, or simply drop a note in the collection basket.

Parish Nurse Ministry

The "mission" of parish nursing is the intentional integration of the practice of faith with the practice of nursing, so that people can achieve wholeness in, with, and through the community of faith in which parish nurses serve.

What the Parish Nurse does:
The Parish Nurse is a licensed, registered/practical nurse who interacts holistically (mind, body & spirit) with members of the congregation and the community. They provide health information on pertinent health topics; assess physical, emotional, and spiritual needs; collaborate with the clergy staff in referring individuals to community resources; and coordinates blood pressure and other group health screenings.

Parish Pastoral Council

Parish Council meets every eight weeks and all parishioners are welcome to attend Council meetings. Click here to learn more about the workings of the Parish Council.

Rummage Sale

A dedicated group of volunteers hold our two-day Rummage Sale twice annually, filling the gymnasium with treasures donated by parishioners. Funds raised from this event are used by the Parish for needed purchases. Watch the Latest News page for news of the Spring and Fall sales.

TAG (Teens Associated with God)

TAG offers spiritual, social, and service opportunities for Jr. and Sr. High youth in a Catholic Christian setting. For information on TAG and its activities, visit the TAG page.
