Infant Baptism

Baptism is a gift that comes with a responsibility. When a child is baptized, the parents take on the responsibility to help the child in this life-long journey of faith. Parents need to realize that they are the first and primary catechists of their children. The Church is there to help them, but the parents are to take the lead in assisting the child to grow in faith.

Parish members, who are new parents, are required to take a Baptism Class; however, the best time to begin preparing for Baptism is ideally before the child is born. Contact the Parish Office or go to "Latest News" for the next available Baptism class. If you are not a member of the parish, we require a letter of permission from your pastor at your home parish.

Pre-registration is required for Baptism. Contact the Parish Office, 734.847.2805 or by e-mail for information.

RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

Sacrament of Reconciliation

Reconciliation (Confession) is every Saturday at 4:30 pm. The confessional is located behind the sanctuary in church. A Parish Reconciliation Service, with individual confession, is held twice a year - Lent & Advent. Check the bulletin or contact the Parish Office, 734.847.2805, for these seasonal dates & times.

Holy Eucharist

Children who have completed first grade religious education (or equivalency) will be catechized for the celebration and reception of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist upon entering the second grade. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is received prior to the reception of First Eucharist.
Age appropriate instruction is provided to lead children to an understanding of the Church’s teachings about the mystery of Christ’s presence in the Eucharist.  This includes classroom instruction, retreats and parental involvement.  The Pastor determines whether a child is sufficiently prepared and has the right intention for the reception of First Eucharist based on information given from the Catechist and the religious education staff.

Confirmation

Students receive Confirmation in the ninth grade. Previous Religious Education is a prerequisite, as well as parent meetings. For information about our Confirmation Program, contact Kelly Schmidt, 734.847.2805 ext. 22 or by e-mail.

A Pre-Marriage Workshop, required by the Diocese of Detroit, is held here at Mount Carmel twice a year (May & November). This is an opportunity for you to gather with other engaged couples and focus on your marriage beyond the wedding.  Click here for information about the next Pre-Marriage Workshop. The workshop will assist you in living out a lifetime commitment in marriage together. You will be amazed how these insights will strengthen your relationship and help build for a better marriage.
